قِيامُ رسولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، قلتُ(1): يا أمَّ المؤمنين، أنبِئيني عن قيام نبيِّ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. قالت: أليسَ تقرأ هذه السُّورة {يَاأَيُّهَا الْمُزَمَلُ}؟ قلتُ: بلى. قالت: فإِنَّ الله عز وجل افترضَ(2) قيامَ اللَّيل في أوَّل هذه السُّورة، فقام نبيُّ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأصحابُه حَوْلًا حتَّى انتفخَتْ أقدامُهم، وأمسكَ اللهُ عز وجل خاتِمَتَها اثني عشر شهرًا، ثُمَّ أنزلَ اللهُ عز وجل التَّخفيفَ في آخر هذه السُّورة، فصارَ قِيامُ اللَّيل تطوُّعًا بعد أن كان فريضةً. فهمَمْتُ أن أقومَ، فبدا لي وِتْرُ رسولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم، فقلت: يا أمَّ المؤمنين، أنبِئيني عن وِتْرِ رسولِ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم. قالت: كُنَّا نُعِدُّ له سِواكَه وطَهورَه، فيبعَثُه اللهُ عز وجل لِما(3) شاء أن يبعثَه من اللَّيل، فيتسوَّكُ، ويتوضَّأ، ويُصلِّي ثماني ركعات، لا يجلس فيهنَّ إِلَّا عند الثَّامنة، يجلِسُ فيذكرُ الله عز وجل، ويدعو، ثُمَّ يُسلِّمُ تسليمًا يُسْمِعُنا، ثُمَّ يُصلِّي رَكعتين وهو جالِسٌ بعد ما يُسلِّم، ثُمَّ يُصلِّي ركعةً، فتلك إحدى عشرة ركعةً يا بنيَّ، فلمَّا أسنَّ رسولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم وأخذ(4) اللَّحم أوترَ بسَبْعٍ، وصلَّى رَكعتين وهو جالسٌ بعد ما سلَّم(5)، فتلكَ تِسْعُ رَكَعات يا بُنيَّ، وكان رسولُ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم إذا صلَّى صلاةً أحبَّ أن يدومَ(6) عليها، وكان إذا شغلَه عن قيام اللَّيل نومٌ أو مرَضٌ أو وجَعٌ صلَّى من النَّهار ثنتي عشرة ركعةً، ولا أعلَمُ أنَّ نبيَّ الله صلى الله عليه وسلم قرأَ القرآنَ كلَّه في ليلة، ولا قامَ ليلةً كاملةً--------------------------------------------

রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের রাতের সালাত (কিয়াম)। আমি বললাম(১): হে মুমিন জননী! আল্লাহর নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের রাতের সালাত সম্পর্কে আমাকে অবহিত করুন। তিনি বললেন: তুমি কি এই সূরাটি পাঠ করো না {হে বস্ত্রাবৃত!}? আমি বললাম: হ্যাঁ, পাঠ করি। তিনি বললেন: নিশ্চয়ই মহান আল্লাহ এই সূরার শুরুতে রাতের সালাত ফরজ(২) করেছিলেন। ফলে আল্লাহর নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম ও তাঁর সাহাবীগণ এক বছর পর্যন্ত (সালাতে) দাঁড়িয়ে থাকলেন, এমনকি তাঁদের পা ফুলে গিয়েছিল। আর মহান আল্লাহ বারো মাস পর্যন্ত এই সূরার শেষাংশ অবতীর্ণ করা থেকে বিরত থাকলেন। অতঃপর মহান আল্লাহ এই সূরার শেষে লঘু করার বিধান নাযিল করলেন, ফলে রাতের সালাত ফরজ হওয়ার পর তা নফল (ঐচ্ছিক) ইবাদতে পরিণত হলো। এরপর আমি উঠে যাওয়ার সংকল্প করলাম, তখন আমার মনে রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের বিতর সালাত সম্পর্কে জানার উদ্রেক হলো। আমি বললাম: হে মুমিন জননী! আমাকে রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লামের বিতর সালাত সম্পর্কে অবহিত করুন। তিনি বললেন: আমরা তাঁর জন্য তাঁর মিসওয়াক ও পবিত্রতার পানি (অজুর পানি) প্রস্তুত করে রাখতাম। অতঃপর মহান আল্লাহ রাতের যে সময়ে(৩) ইচ্ছা তাঁকে জাগ্রত করতেন। তখন তিনি মিসওয়াক করতেন, অজু করতেন এবং আট রাকাত সালাত আদায় করতেন। এগুলোর মধ্যে অষ্টম রাকাত ছাড়া তিনি বসতেন না। অষ্টম রাকাতে তিনি বসতেন এবং মহান আল্লাহর জিকির করতেন ও দোয়া করতেন, এরপর আমাদের শুনিয়ে সালাম ফিরাতেন। অতঃপর সালাম ফিরানোর পর বসে তিনি দুই রাকাত সালাত আদায় করতেন। তারপর আরও এক রাকাত সালাত আদায় করতেন। হে আমার বৎস! এই হলো মোট এগারো রাকাত। যখন রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম বার্ধক্যে উপনীত হলেন এবং তাঁর শরীরে মেদ বা মাংস বাড়ল(৪), তখন তিনি সাত রাকাত বিতর পড়তেন এবং সালাম ফিরানোর(৫) পর বসে দুই রাকাত সালাত আদায় করতেন। হে আমার বৎস! এই হলো মোট নয় রাকাত। রাসূলুল্লাহ সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম যখন কোনো সালাত আদায় করতেন, তখন তা নিয়মিত(৬) করতে পছন্দ করতেন। আর যখন ঘুম, অসুস্থতা কিংবা ব্যথার কারণে রাতের সালাত আদায়ে অক্ষম হতেন, তখন দিনের বেলা বারো রাকাত সালাত আদায় করে নিতেন। আমার জানা মতে, আল্লাহর নবী সাল্লাল্লাহু আলাইহি ওয়াসাল্লাম এক রাতে পুরো কুরআন খতম করেননি এবং কখনো সারা রাত জেগে সালাত আদায় করেননি।--------------------------------------------

The Night Prayer of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace. I said: "O Mother of the Believers, tell me about the night prayer of the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." She said: "Do you not recite this surah, {O you who are wrapped up}?" I said: "Yes." She said: "Indeed, Allah, Mighty and Majestic, made the night prayer an obligation at the beginning of this surah, so the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, and his companions stood in prayer for a year until their feet became swollen, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, withheld its conclusion for twelve months. Then Allah, Mighty and Majestic, sent down the alleviation at the end of this surah, and the night prayer became voluntary after it had been an obligation."
Then I intended to stand up, but the witr of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, occurred to me, so I said: "O Mother of the Believers, tell me about the witr of the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace." She said: "We used to prepare for him his toothstick and his water for purification, and Allah, Mighty and Majestic, would rouse him at whatever time of the night He willed to rouse him. He would use the toothstick, perform ablution, and pray eight rak'ahs, not sitting in them except at the eighth, where he would sit, remember Allah, Mighty and Majestic, and supplicate. Then he would give the salutation in a voice that we could hear. Then he would pray two rak'ahs while sitting after giving the salutation. Then he would pray one rak'ah, and that made eleven rak'ahs, O my son. When the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, grew old and gained flesh, he performed the witr with seven, and prayed two rak'ahs while sitting after giving the salutation, and that made nine rak'ahs, O my son. And the Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, when he prayed a prayer, loved to persist in it. And when sleep, illness, or pain kept him from the night prayer, he would pray twelve rak'ahs during the day. And I do not know that the Prophet of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, ever recited the entire Quran in one night, nor stood in prayer a complete night."
