We were informed by Ishaq ibn Ibrahim and Abd ibn Humayd, both saying: We were informed by Abd al-Razzaq, who said: We were informed by Ma'mar, on the authority of al-Zuhri, on the authority of 'Urwa, on the authority of Abu Humayd al-Sa'idi, who said: The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, appointed Ibn al-Lutbiyya—a man from the tribe of Azd—as a collector of charity. He came with the wealth and handed it to the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, saying: "This is your wealth, and this is a gift that was presented to me." The Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, said to him: "Why did you not sit in the house of your father and your mother, and see whether a gift would be given to you or not?" Then the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, stood up to deliver a sermon. Then he mentioned something similar to the hadith of Sufyan.
