Narrated to us Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, narrated to us Abdullah ibn Idris; and narrated to us Ibn Numayr, narrated to us my father and Muhammad ibn Bishr; and narrated to us Yahya ibn Yahya, informed us Musa ibn A'yan; and narrated to me Muhammad ibn Rafi', narrated to us Abu Usamah — all of them from Isma'il ibn Abi Khalid. And narrated to me Muhammad ibn Hatim — and the wording is his — narrated to us Yahya ibn Sa'id, narrated to us Isma'il, narrated to us Qays, who said: I heard Mustawrid, the brother of Banu Fihr, saying: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "By Allah, this world compared to the Hereafter is nothing but like what one of you places his finger — and Yahya pointed with his index finger — into the sea, so let him see with what it returns." And in all their narrations other than Yahya: I heard the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, say that. And in the narration of Abu Usamah: from al-Mustawrid ibn Shaddad, the brother of Banu Fihr. And in his narration also, he said: and Isma'il pointed with his thumb.
