Muhammad ibn Rafi' and 'Abd ibn Humayd narrated to us. Muhammad ibn Rafi' said: Waki' narrated to us, and 'Abd said: 'Abd al-Razzaq informed us, Ma'mar informed us, from al-Zuhri, who said: Salim ibn 'Abd Allah and Abu Bakr ibn Sulayman informed me that 'Abd Allah ibn 'Umar said: The Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, led us in the night prayer ('isha') one night near the end of his life. When he gave the salutation, he stood up and said: "Do you see this night of yours? Indeed, at the head of one hundred years from this night, there will not remain on the face of the earth a single one of those who are upon it." Ibn 'Umar said: The people were confused by that statement of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, regarding what they were discussing from these hadiths about one hundred years. But the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, only meant: "There will not remain of those who are today upon the face of the earth a single one," intending by that that this generation would come to an end.
