Harun ibn Sa‘id al-Ayli narrated to us: Ibn Wahb narrated to us: Makhramah ibn Bukayr informed me, on the authority of his father, on the authority of Abu Salamah ibn ‘Abd al-Rahman, who said: ‘A’ishah said: When the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) performed the ritual bath (ghusl), he would begin with his right side, pouring water over it and washing it. Then he would pour water with his right hand over the impurity on his body and wash it away with his left hand. When he finished that, he would pour water over his head. ‘A’ishah said: I and the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) would perform the ritual bath from a single vessel while we were in a state of major ritual impurity (janabah).
