Narrated to us Isma‘il ibn al-Khalil and Suwayd ibn Sa‘id, both from Ibn Mushir. Isma‘il said: ‘Ali ibn Mushir informed us, from Hisham ibn ‘Urwah, from his father, from ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, who said:

“On the Day of the Trench, I and ‘Umar ibn Abi Salamah were with the women in the fortress of Hassan. He would bend down for me once so I could look out, and I would bend down for him once so he could look out. I could recognize my father when he passed on his horse, in his armor, heading toward Banu Qurayzah.”

He said: And ‘Abdullah ibn ‘Urwah informed me, from ‘Abdullah ibn al-Zubayr, who said: “I mentioned that to my father, and he said: ‘Did you see me, my son?’ I said: ‘Yes.’ He said: ‘By Allah, on that day the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, gathered both his parents for me, saying: “May my father and my mother be your ransom.”’”
