Muhammad ibn al-Muthanna narrated to us, saying: Uthman ibn Umar narrated to us, saying: Ali — and he is Ibn al-Mubarak — informed us, on the authority of Yahya, on the authority of Abu Salamah, on the authority of Abu Qatadah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, said: "Do not make nabidh from unripe dates and ripe dates together, and do not make nabidh from ripe dates and raisins together. Rather, make nabidh from each one separately." And Yahya claimed that he met Abdullah ibn Abi Qatadah, who narrated to him from his father, from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, something similar to this.
