And Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah narrated to us, saying: Ali ibn Mus-hir narrated to us, from al-Shaybani, who said: I asked Abdullah ibn Abi Awfa about the meat of domesticated donkeys. He said: We were stricken with hunger on the day of Khaybar while we were with the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him. We had taken some donkeys of the people that had come out of Medina, and we slaughtered them. Indeed, our pots were boiling when the crier of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, called out: "Upset the pots and do not eat anything of the meat of the donkeys." So I said: Did he forbid them as a prohibition of what kind? He said: We discussed it among ourselves and said: He forbade them absolutely, and he forbade them because they had not been taken as one-fifth (khums).
