Narrated Abdullah ibn Abd al-Rahman al-Darimi: Abdullah ibn Amr—who is Abu Ma'mar al-Minqari—narrated to us: Abd al-Warith narrated to us: Abd al-Aziz—who is Ibn Suhayb—narrated from Anas ibn Malik, who said:

On the day of Uhud, some people fled from the Prophet, peace and blessings be upon him, while Abu Talhah stood before the Prophet, shielding him with a leather shield. Abu Talhah was a skilled archer who drew his bow with great force, and on that day he broke two or three bows. Whenever a man passed by carrying a quiver of arrows, the Prophet would say: "Scatter them out for Abu Talhah."

The Prophet of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, would raise his head to look at the people, and Abu Talhah would say: "O Prophet of Allah, may my father and mother be your ransom, do not raise your head, lest an arrow from the people's arrows strike you—my chest is before your chest."

Anas said: I saw Aisha, daughter of Abu Bakr, and Umm Sulaym, and they had hitched up their garments, and I could see the anklets of their legs, as they carried water skins on their backs, then poured them into the mouths of the people, then returned to fill them again, then came and poured them into the mouths of the people. And indeed, the sword fell from Abu Talhah's hands two or three times due to drowsiness.
