Muhammad ibn al-Sabbah narrated to me: Khalid ibn Abdullah narrated to us, from Amr ibn Yahya ibn Umarah, from his father, from Abdullah ibn Zayd ibn Asim al-Ansari — and he was a Companion — who said: It was said to him, "Perform ablution for us like the ablution of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him." So he called for a vessel, and poured from it onto his hands and washed them three times. Then he inserted his hand, brought it out, and rinsed his mouth and sniffed water into his nose from one handful, doing that three times. Then he inserted his hand, brought it out, and washed his face three times. Then he inserted his hand, brought it out, and washed his arms up to the elbows twice, twice. Then he inserted his hand, brought it out, and wiped his head, moving his hands forward and backward. Then he washed his feet up to the ankles. Then he said: "This is how the ablution of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, was."
