And it was narrated to us by Abdullah ibn Maslamah al-Qa'nabi, who said: narrated to us Sulayman—meaning Ibn Bilal—from Yahya—and he is Ibn Sa'id—from Bushayr ibn Yasar, from some of the companions of the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, from among the people of their household, among them Sahl ibn Abi Hathmah, that the Messenger of Allah, peace and blessings be upon him, forbade the sale of fresh dates for dried dates, and said: "That is usury, that is muzabanah." However, he granted a concession regarding the sale of al-'ariyyah—one palm tree or two palm trees—which the people of a household take, based on their estimated yield in dried dates, to eat them as fresh dates.
