Narrated to us Abu Bakr ibn Abi Shaybah, narrated to us ‘Affān, narrated to us Abān ibn Yazīd — and (another chain): narrated to me Isḥāq ibn Manṣūr — and the wording is his — informed us Ḥabbān ibn Hilāl, narrated to us Abān, narrated to us Yaḥyā, that Zayd narrated to him that Abū Sallām narrated to him that Abū Mālik al-Ash‘arī narrated to him that the Prophet ﷺ said: "Four practices of the pre-Islamic era of ignorance remain among my ummah, and they will not abandon them: boasting about one's forefathers, defaming one's lineage, seeking rain by the stars, and wailing over the dead." And he said: "The wailing woman, if she does not repent before her death, will be made to stand on the Day of Resurrection wearing a garment of tar and a coat of mange."
