Harmalah ibn Yahya narrated to me, Ibn Wahb narrated to us, 'Amr ibn al-Harith informed me, from Ibn Shihab, from 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr, from 'A'ishah, the wife of the Prophet, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, who said: The Messenger of Allah, may Allah bless him and grant him peace, used to pray eleven rak'ahs between finishing the 'Isha' prayer — which is the one people call al-'Atamah — and the dawn. He would say the taslim after every two rak'ahs, and he would conclude with a single rak'ah of witr. When the mu'adhdhin fell silent from the dawn prayer, and the dawn became clear to him, and the mu'adhdhin came to him, he would stand and pray two light rak'ahs, then lie down on his right side until the mu'adhdhin came to him for the iqamah.
